Kwanzaa is a seven-day cultural celebration that honors African heritage and values. It begins on December 26th and lasts until January 1st. One of the central symbols of Kwanzaa is the kinara, a candle holder with seven candles: three red on the left, three green on the right, and a black candle in the center. Each candle represents one of the seven principles of Kwanzaa: unity, self-determination, and collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, and faith.
